On November 2 and 3, Mazhou Island hosts the 33rd Asian Ship Repairers Conference in Shekou, Shenzhen. 28 delegates of 11 major shipyards from China, Taiwan, Thailand and other countries and regions attended the conference.
The conference was chaired by Li Zhengjian, Secretary General of China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry. The conference adopted operations reports of each companies, delegates of the conference discussed and proposed to change Asian Ship Repairers Conference into a non-governmental organization of IMO. They also discussed about ballasting and installation of desulfurization tower.
Asian Ship Repairers Conference is one of the important meetings participated by major shipyards in Asia. As a regional industry conference with a history of more than 30 years, the conference acts as a communication platform for the participants to exchange their opinions extensively with respect to the types and quantities of ship repaired and modified each year; the cost and market conditions of new steel plates and sand blasting; current status and prospect of ship repair industry; the impact of exchange rates in ship repair market in various countries; as well as energy saving and the environmental protection regulations.
